Silent Hand Catches Silver Bell : exhibition tour & instrument making workshop
Music Excursion for Secondary School Groups
In this facilitator-led experience, students will be guided through Silent Hand Catches Silver Bell – an exhibition celebrating Speak Percussion’s 25th Anniversary at the Grainger Museum. They will come face-to-face with custom-built instruments, striking installations, and archival materials that showcase Speak Percussion’s audacity and post-instrumental approach, where sound, object, space, and concept intersect to create genre-breaking work. Following the exhibition tour, students will engage in a hands-on workshop, designing and building their own unique sound-making devices.
Using their deep knowledge of the exhibition, the Speak Percussion team facilitator will introduce students to key concepts and ideas; such as acoustics, material science in sound, and experimental design – through engaging group discussions and practical activities, prompting students to think critically about the works and their own creative potential.
