The Sounds Unheard Online Masterclasses are back for 2016, kicking off with sound artist and composer Gail Priest. In her three part masterclass, ‘The known and the unknown: experimental laptop composition and performance’, Gail will introduce us to her work, take us on a tour through a brief history of experimental music, and demonstrate how she creates music with her laptop.
In this first masterclass, Introduction to The known and the unknown and Gail Priest, you’ll learn about how Gail combines real-word sounds (figurative sounds) with synthesised sounds (sounds created by electronic music instruments, where electrical impulses are turned into sound by amplifiers, headphones or speakers). If you’ve ever played an electric guitar, electric keyboard or an electronic drum kit – you’re already making synthesised sounds too! You’ll also learn more about Gail’s background in music and theatre, and see a recent performance of Gail’s work from the 2016 NOW Now Festival in Sydney.
Check the blog next Friday for part two of Gail’s masterclass series!
